BSC Posts Big Win at Short Course Season Opener
Great Job at the LFSC Monster Mash
Barrington Swim Club opened the 2011-2012 Short Course Competition season this past weekend at the Monster Mash Meet in Wisconsin. 87 Teammates traveled to the meet and posted some very nice best times. The Team swam to 94% Best Times, over 80 New Championship Qualifying Times, 14 New Meet Records and 5 New Team Records. Barrington won the meet overall with over 2,700 points over 800 points ahead of second place. It was nice to see BSC pick up the Short Course Season where they left off the Long Course season. Great Job Team.

Here are a couple of things we did well:
-
Racing—BSC Swimmers did a good job of getting out there on the first half of the race, but really shined on the back half of their races. BSC generall showed good fitness and toughness extending a lead or winning the race on the second half.
-
Technique—BSC Swimmers were much improved on the technical side for the most part. This was reflected in the low number of Dqs in the meet. This shows that we are starting to realize that good technique is an “All The Time” thing in practice and at meets.
-
Self-Reliance---BSC Swimmers did the best job I have seen of getting themselves behind the blocks in time without having a coach walk them to the blocks. This shows BSC swimmers are learning to take charge of what they are doing and pay attention to the pace of the meet and be ready to race on time.
Here are a couple of things we need to work on:
-
Breakouts—Although our turns were much improved our push-offs and streamlines were not very good at all. Before your feet leave the wall you must have a tight streamline with your head under your arms. The next phase is to accelerate to the surface at race speed. This is done by kicking!! At the National level everyone gets past 10meters on the pushoff. We need to continually work to get at least past the flags every push-off, every stroke, every day!
-
Proper Technique—Although our technique is much improved, there is still a lot of work to be done. One of the marks of a great team is the ability to translate what is being done in practice to what happens in races. There were too many sloppy technical swims this weekend. A best time by 30 seconds is great, but it will probably be a best time by 40 seconds if the stroke is done properly in practice and at the meet!
-
Aggressiveness---As well trained as BSC Swimmers are we were not aggressive enough on the front half of our races as a team. We need to get better at trusting our training and be aggressive early and explosive on the back half of the race. This is the number one benefit of how we train USE IT!
RACE LIKE A CHAMPION AT SECTIONALS, JUNIOR OLYMPICS and NATIONALS!!
