Here are some things we did well at the meer:
-
Splitting Races Properly—BSC swimmers were very consistent with their splits this weekend. For those swimmers swimming the 200s for the first time and our 800Freestyles it was awesome to see the splits be even. That shows both racing maturity, mental toughness, and a good fitness base.
-
Swimming Out of Our Comfort Zone—BSC swimmers approached new events with a great attitude. There were quite a few teammates swimming a 200 of stroke for the first time this weekend and everyone did a great job of stepping up and racing with confidence! For our 11-12 swimmers racing against older swimmers it was awesome to see BSC Teammates racing hard and not being intimidated by age or size! I am really proud of you all.
Here are some things we need to work on for the next meet:
-
Be More Aggressive—There were some races where we were not aggressive enough on the front half of the race. One of the advantages of the way we train at BSC is the ability to go out fast and hang on better than anyone else. Use the toughness you gain in training as an advantage when you race. Be Aggressive!
-
Know What Your Goal Time Is---BSC Teammates need to know what time they need to get to qualify for the end of season meets. There were way too many times folks did not know how fast they needed to go! Know the long course cuts. Yes, the coaches know the times, but BSC swimmers need to take ownership and responsibility for their meet performance and know what they are trying to accomplish. When you know what your destination is, you can realistically evaluate success!
-
Work Harder On The Little Things—As a Team we took a giant step backwards on Starts, Turns, and Finishes this weekend. It absolutely drove me crazy to see BSC swimmers breathing into finishes on Free and Fly. Getting Disqualified for rolling over on Back Finishes, not doing Pullouts on Breaststroke. Not accelerating into Turns! This signals a lack of focus in practice. BSC swimmers should take charge of what they are doing and both visualize and execute perfect streamlines, turns and finishes every lap of every day! Do not allow yourself to be sloppy—ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE SWIMMING HARD AND YOU ARE TIRED! Everyone should expect coaches to be hyper-vigilant with these issues from now on.
