Lombardi Time
Lombardi Time
The Green Bay Packers' Hall of Fame Coach Vince Lombardi had a saying 15minutes early is on time, on time is 15 minutes late. What was the purpose of his policy and how can BSC use it to be the Best Team in Illinois? Being 15 minutes early offered Lombardi's players three distinct advantages: Physical Preparedness, Mental Preparedness, and Discipline Preparedness
-
Physical Preparedness—Being on Lombardi time gives athletes time to make sure they are physically ready to perform at practice. They can have their gear ready to go, water bottles filled, caps on, suits tied. Practice time can be spent on practice, not on preparation to practice.
-
Mental Preparedness—Being on Lombardi time gives athletes an opportunity to take a deep breath, shake off the stress of the day and focus on why they are at practice and what they need to accomplish to reach their ultimate goal. The mental state of an athlete is just as important as the physical aspect of their training. An athlete that is mentally prepared will be ready and focused on the task at hand in training.
-
Discipline Preparedness—Being on Lombardi time is a valuable life skill that teaches young athletes the discipline necessary to function in the adult work environment. This preparedness shows that the athlete is consistently ready to take responsibility for their own success. Being on time shows that they care not just about themselves, but about the TEAM.
Some folks thought Lombardi was asking too much of his players the: respect, preparation and discipline this attitude fostered was one of the foundational pillars of the legendary Packers success (5 Championships in 7 years). At BSC our commitment to excellence is the same: Be Physically Prepared for Excellence every practice—even at 5:15 AM. Be Mentally Prepared for Excellence—focused on what it takes to accomplish your Goal. Be Disciplined in your Preparation—show your Teammates and Coaches that you Care about your success and the success of the Team.
