BSC Wins HPAC Meet!
BSC Teammates dominated the meet at Highland Park this past weekend. It was great to see BSC swimmers stepping up and racing hard. The team swam to 82% Best Times with several swims in the National Top 10 for this early season meet. There were over 10 near misses on Team Records this weekend—great effort---lets get them next time! I hope everyone learned a lot about where we are and where we need to go to be a Top 5 Team in March—Let's Get To Work. I am proud of you all great attitude and great effort it was FUN.

Here are a few things we did well
-
Great Expectations---It is awesome to see our swimmers with such high goals and expectations!! Keep them high. Keep working toward them. Remember we are Training for March!
-
Finishing Races---This is one of the trademarks of BSC. All our athletes finished strong. We still need to focus on the technical aspect to getting to the wall properly, but the effort on the back half was a step in the right direction.
-
Streamlines and Underwater work---This is the one area where BSC will make the most progress this season. As a start I saw much better discipline across the board on underwater work and streamlining.
Here are a few things to work on:
-
Perspective
Judging progress and success is all about Perspective. What does this mean? At BSC each of our 150 plus athletes are important! Our culture of excellence is all about striving to be the BEST we can be whatever that means for each individual's talent and commitment level. We should expect to do well and we should expect to win. Why? Because we are a group of Parents, Coaches and Swimmers working hard to be the Best we can Be. It's not the number of athletes that makes BSC a Success, It's the Number of Successful Athletes we HAVE that makes BSC Special.

Goal Setting
What is my Best Time—Too many teammates did not even know their best times. In order to effectively set a goal one first needs to be aware of where they are before they plan where they want to end up.
What does my Goal Time Mean—Goals are great, but each swimmer needs to know what their goal means. Example: 11-12 year old Sally Swimfast says she wants to go 2:06.00 in the 200Free by the Age Group Championship Meet. Sally, why do you want to go that time? Sally would reply because that is what it took to score Top 16 last year. Great Goal Sally! BSC Swimmers need to really focus in and work hard to reach that scoring level at their Championship Meet.
What have you done in practice that would indicate you are reaching that goal. Sally has 95% practice attendance and can swim 8x50 with 5 seconds rest holding 30 seconds per 50. As a coach I look at her attendance and performance in practice and say with confidence Sally has a great chance of achieving her goal because 50s on 30 seconds are at or faster than goal time pace. The more often a teammate can exceed race velocity in practice the more likely the desired outcome is.
