Here are a few things the team did well:
-
Toughness—It was really great to see BSC swimmers racing though the entire race. BSC Teammates showed their ability to race from any point in a race. We raced from the front of the field, from the back of the field, from the middle of the field, from the middle of the pool, from the end lanes of the pool. This is a very valuable skill and BSC Teammates showed they are learning this quite well!
-
Adaptability—BSC Swimmers showed their ability to adapt to differing meet conditions. There were very few missed events and very few Dqs during a meet that had a different format than most teammates have seen. The ability to focus on performance and stay in control of themselves is a huge step in the right direction for us as a TEAM.
Here are a few things we need to work on:
-
Explosiveness on the Back Half—We need to show better acceleration on the back half of the race. It is vital for future development that BSC swimmers continue to work on increasing tempo and kicking on the second half of the race. Every Swim requires acceleration on the second half. Work hard in practice on finish a repeat and finish a set going FAST! Work hard on increasing your stroke rate and kicking harder on the second half of every repeat and every practice. This is why we place our kicking and pulling sets toward the end of practice!
-
Be More Aggressive on the Front Half---BSC Teammates spent quite a bit of time playing catch up on the front half of our races. The advantage of training with the frequency and intensity that we do is the ability to dictate the pace early in races. At the next meet lets make a point to take our races out faster then use our superior endurance to create separation on the back half.
-
Accelerate through the Turns and Finishes—It is very important that we accelerate—or go faster—in and out of turns, and finishes. There were too many times where BSC Teamamtes were slowing down into a turn or floating into a finish. As we get closer to Championship Time it will be the difference between making a Podium Final and being an alternate. Every turn and finish every practice requires your focused attention to detail.
Lets look forward to the Mustang Classic and show measurable improvement in these areas and continue to show why BSC is one of the Teams On The Rise in Illinois!! GO BSC!!
