Here are some things we did well:
-
Aggressiveness-- BSC Teammates did a great job pushing the front half of our races. This is a key skill to have looking forward to late February/Early March and National Level swimming. You have to be able to get up and compete—Good Job Team!
-
Tough Swimming in the Morning—Tougher Swimming at Night—BSC Teammates did a great job of swimming fast in the morning to make finals and then making necessary adjustments to be even better at Night. Swimming to a Second place finish as a team shows that developing ability.
Here are some things we need to work on:
-
Finish the Race—There were too many races this weekend where BSC Teammate were fading on the back half of their races. As a Team we take great pride in our toughness and our fitness. Everyone should race with that in mind. When you turn at the ½ way point everyone needs to increase kicking and tempo and battle til they touch the wall. In the next month focus on finishing each repeat, each set, and each practice HARD!
-
Technical Details—There were too many fundamental technical mistakes that are directly contrary to what we have been coached to do in practice. A great example was swimmers not holding standard breathing patterns early in races. Oxygen is fuel—no O-2 equals no fuel at the end of a race when you need it. Swimmers need to stay calm, focused and disciplined at all times both in practice and while racing.
