Here are a few things the Team did well:

  1. Much Improved Back Half—Pony, Mustang and Maverick swimmers did a much better job of finishing strong! It was great to see BSC teammates racing past other competitors on the back half of our races. That shows improvement in both fitness, toughness, and technical improvement—Good Job.

  2. Much Improved Attention to Detail—BSC Teammates showed significant improvement in the area of starts, turns and finishes. After our December meets both coaches and athletes have worked at improving the little things that make a big difference. At the Winter Classic it was obvious that BSC teammates have been focusing on improving streamlines, acceleration into and out of turns as well as underwater kicking. There were quite a few swims where teammates won a race on a great turn or finish. It shows athlete focus every lap, every practice, every day—Nice Improvement.

  3. Being Open to Try New Events—There were plenty of BSC Teammates that were swimming new events at the meet, and it was AWESOME to see the eagerness to try something new and challenging. It shows how far BSC has come as a program. We have more teammates doing all four strokes legally, we have more teammates with enough confidence, fitness, and technical ability to swim all distances of all the strokes. That is very EXCITING for the FUTURE!

Here are a few things the Team needs to work on:

  1. Emotional Energy—In order to consistently perform at the level of improvement BSC has experienced in competition, teammates need to be mentally prepared to RACE.

  2. Better Understanding of Preparation—Henry Ford said, “The only history that matters is the history we make today,” That means teammates should train like they haven't made it yet, but still have confidence in what they have already achieved. It takes 6-8Weeks of hard, dedicated, focused improvement in practice to see the benefit in a race. The older and more accomplished a young swimmer is the longer and more intense that work period needs to be to get time improvement. Teammates need to be constantly aware of how training relates to achievement of their goal. If Timmy Touchpad wants to go 1:00 in the 100Free, he needs to be training at 13-14sec. for 25s, 29-30sec. for 50s and 43-44sec. for 75s. Timmy will need to constantly mentally check himself and listen to coach feedback on his effort level each practice. Always be focused on how you can IMPROVE!

  3. Be Able to Race From Anywhere in the Field-- Being able to race from any position is so important as a developing athlete and developing program. What does that mean? It mean that BSC teammates need to learn to race at their best no matter the lane they are in, no matter the heat they are in, no matter if they are ahead or behind by 10seconds or more.

Let us continue to stay focused on Improvement and work hard to be our very best down as we close out the short course season!!
