BSC Swims To Success at AA and STSC Meets

Great Job at the AA and STSC Meets!

At the Alligator Meet: It was amazing to see the results of this meet. What a great statement for our club to see so many teammates breaking through to the Regional and Championship level!! This shows the tremendous growth of our young athlete in training and technique! There were teammates, who in their first season of competitive swimming, made first time Regional Cuts and are in striking distance of Championship Time Standards. BSC Teammates swam to 63% Best Times, with 63 Regional or Championship Qualifying Times, and 1 New Team Record. Great Job!

At the St. Charles Meet: BSC Swam to a 3rd Place finish as a Team! Against some of the best competition in our area BSC showed that we have progressed to the point where we can compete with the State's Best Swim Programs! This is a statement to all the hard work done by the athletes, dedication of coaches, and support of parents. BSC Teammates swam to 51% Best Times, 186 Regional or Championship Qualifying Times that is 91% of all swims, and 8 New Team Records. Great Job!

Here are some things we did well:

  1. Great Teams Get Better as the Meet Goes On—We say this a bunch, but it is so true. As the meets went on BSC Teammates kept getting better and better. By the time Sunday came around it was very cool to see our team performing at a high level at the end of a meet. This takes both physical, technical and mental toughness, it was obvious that BSC swimmers are making strides in all phases!

  2. Relays Measure Team Developmental Progress—The best way to see how a Team is moving forward is to look at how relays are progressing. This weekend BSC Teammates swam to 4 New Team Relay Records! It is a sign that Great things are happening here at BSC when records for 11-12, 13-14, and Senior all are Broken at the same time. This shows a team that is on the rise Great Job!

  3. Having the Courage to Try Something New—Sometimes it is important to experience a race in a different way in order to get a breakthrough swim later on . This weekend some teammates were asked to experiment with different technique and tactics to learn about how to best reach their goal in the next few weeks. BSC did a great job trying some new things, and the athlete feedback and learning curve was exactly what the coaching staff wanted to see. Great Job—it takes courage to get out of your comfort zone and put an effort totally out there—I am really proud of all of you!

Here are some things we need to work on

  1. Give your Best Effort for Every Race—It is important for any athlete to give their best effort in every swim, in practice and in a meet. There were some instances where BSC Teammates hurt the team in place and points by not giving their all, saving up for a later race. AT BSC we will HONOR our Teammates with our EFFORT at all times. Athletes you are worth your best effort and so are your Teammates—give it your all for Yourself and your Teammates

  2. Do the Little Things Well All the Time—Finishes this weekend were an area that lacked focus at the meets. Swim Hard into every wall, no breathing the last 5 meters in Fly and Free. Races can be won or lost in the last 5 meters—just ask Michael Phelps—Practice driving to the wall in every stroke on every finish. This area has been a strong point all season—let's refocus and Finish like Champions over the next few weeks!

  3. Be Flexible—As an athlete it is important to only spend time on things that you can control. Stay focused on what matters—getting up and down the pool as fast as possible competing with toughness and technique keeping the goal time in mind at all times. Do not be flustered by a late lap counter, or a suit problem or a DQ—all these things are regular and normal and serve as teachable moments where Teammates can learn to rise above circumstances to achieve great things. Stay Calm, Take a Deep Breath, Remember What you are at the Pool to Do.
