Here are a Few Things We Did Well
-
Attention to Details—BSC Teammates did a good job following race instructions. An important part of Long Term Development is for athletes to be able to experiment with various racing strategies early in the season to test training and learn basic racing tactics. In short—learning there is always more than one way to successfully accomplish a task.
-
Team Pride—It was amazing to see the Team working Together on Relays! BSC Swept the Relay awards and everyone stepped up and raced very well. Taking Pride in Relay performances is Key to building a successful TEAM!
-
Maintaining Technique at the end of Races—This was very obvious during the 100 Butterfly races. BSC Teammates did a great job focusing on their technique the last 25 meters and either passed their competition or pulled away even more. This comes from focusing on those Technical details every lap every day in practice.
Here are a Few Things We Can Work On
-
Mental Preparation---One of the things that the coaches talked about before the meet was knowing what you are swimming, knowing what your best times are, and knowing what your goal time is. Meet entries are posted far enough in advance everyone should be able to look at what they are swimming and be mentally prepared to swim their events. It is so important to know where you are, where you are going and how you are going to get there. Be honest with yourself about the preparation you have done in relationship to your expectations of how you will perform.
-
Back Half Explosiveness—Being able to accelerate on the back half of a race is vital to success in a long course format. Increasing kicking and stroke rate will allow athletes to maintain their speed over the race distance. Focus on establishing stroke rate the front half then add a great kick and increase the stroke rate on the back half. In practice focus on working harder on the kick sets, negative splitting each repeat, and finishing every practice hard.
Everyone did a great job this weekend. Do not get complacent!! Keep pushing hard and trying to reach higher goals to be our BEST as a TEAM in JULY and AUGUST!
