Here are some things we did well:

  1. Tactics---BSC swimmers showed their ability to race from ahead, behind or even head to head. The really fun thing was we were doing it on purpose!Being able to race using different strategies is a valuable tool as a young swimmer matures. Very fun to watch!

  2. Cheering for Teammates—The support for teammates was way better at this meet. You all were behind the lanes supporting our swimmers—believe it or not it makes a huge difference. Keep it Up!

  3. Making Adjustments between prelims and finals—Barrington swimmers did an awesome job of making the necessary changes between prelims and finals. This is a skill that has really improved over this season. The ability to work with the coaches in making changes, tactically and technically, to improve in finals is a mark of a good team. The fact that these adaptations were made as the meet went on was also very impressive.

  4. Starts and Turns---It was super obvious that our Starts, Turns and underwater work has been a huge improvement! This has been a constant stress every practice. It was great to see the explosive acceleration on starts and turns. Keep Up The Good Work!

Here are some things we need to work on:

  1. Kicking Consistently—There was some solid progress in this area, but still a long way to go. Kicking is Winning in swimming. The swimmers who kick consistently throughout their race usually come out ahead. Remember watching the Nathan Adrian 100Free Olympic Gold Medal race? Nathan increased his kick through the last 15 meters of the race and ended up touching out his competition! Keep working on this in practice. Pay close attention to speed play—increase your kick. Pay close attention to 6Beat Kicking Drills—we do them every day!

  2. Acceleration into Turns and Finishes—Again an area where we improved a bunch, but still need to maintain a focus. We were much better off the walls, but woefully behind getting into the turn. Remember the explosive acceleration going into the wall, increasing stroke rate and kicking. This also helps generate momentum coming off the wall into the breakout.

  3. Free to swim---Generally, our team was outstanding in the attitude and motivation department, but there were are few times where we fell a bit short. BSC went to a Prelims/Finals meet was to have the opportunity to practice swimming Finals. There were too many times where BSC teammates actually came out and said they hoped they would not make finals. What?! Have a teammate's attitude, every time you make a Final and go a best time you are helping the team get better and yourself get better. Always Strive to Be Your Best!
