Here are a few things we did well
-
Starts—Our starts were amazing to see BSC crushing their heats to 15m was really fun. It shows how hard everyone has worked on their explosiveness off the blocks and underwater.
-
The Last ¼ of the Race—BSC Swimmers were AMAZING on the last quarter of their races. It is very fun to run someone down at the end of a race! That really shows how much more fit BSC Swimmers are.
-
Enjoying being with Teammates—It is always awesome to see everyone enjoying teammates at a meet. Swimming is special because of the friendships we make going through the hard work together all trying to be our best and helping those around us be their best as well. Great Job
Here are a few things we need to work on
-
Pushing through the Middle of Races---BSC Teammates did an awesome job on the back end of their races, but were quite soft in the middle of those races. Good long course swimming includes the ability to maintain momentum from the first quarter and build through the second quarter, exploding into the back half with a very strong finish. Make sure you are working hard in practice on the middle part of every repeat maintaining speed.
-
Manage Expectations Properly—There were too many swimmers that went into the meet with unrealistic expectations. BSC Teammates need to understand you aren't always going to go a best time. The older and faster you get the more hard work will be needed to go even a small best time. Learn from your race always take away something positive, look at what you need to improve one, go back to the training pool and work on it for next time.
-
Swim Your Own Race---BSC Teammates had some really exciting races at the meet, but some of those races shouldn't have been close. BSC Swimmers made the mistake of thinking a certain swimmer would go a certain time and that would be good enough for a best time. BSC Teammates train day in and day out to race at their goal time pace. Don't get sucked in to a slower pace by a swimmer with a fast seed time.
Our Next Meet is the Stars on the Water Summer Splash hosted by BSC at the Rec-Plex! Lets work hard to be our BEST against the BEST competition in the Midwest!
