Great Job at the LFSC Monster Mash Barrington Swim Club opened the 2011-2012 Short Course Competition season this past weekend at the Monster Mash Meet in Wisconsin. 87 Teammates traveled to the meet and posted some very nice best times. The Team swam to 94% Best Times, over 80 New Championship Qualifying Times, 14 New Meet Records and 5 New Team Records. Barrington won the meet overall with over 2,700 points over 800 points ahead of second place. It was nice to see BSC pick up the Short Course Season...

I sincerely hope everyone had a good weekend! Looking forward to starting the Fall/Winter Competition season I was re-reading a book called “The Question Behind the Question” The book focuses on personal accountability and can be immediately and specifically applied to whatever we do!As a Head Coach I am always trying to develop and learn new ways to help empower young swimmers to set and reach their goals. There are some key points that speak directly to where we are as a Team Right Now. Problems are in the Past!...

Kudos to BSC Swimmer Anne Jacobsen for being selected to the USA Swimming Academic All-American Team for the 3rd Year in a row. In order to be recognized as a Scholastic All American you must have completed the 10th, 11th or 12th grade. Have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and achieve at least one of the Time Standards for a single event. Anne is a great example of the balance between Academics and Swimming Excellence that we are trying to grow here at BSC! Anne is currently on...

BE ENTHUSIASTIC As most of you know I continually read the great authors in world literature. This week I was reading Emerson and found a quote that I though could motivate all of us in the coming weeks, “Nothing Great was Ever Accomplished Without Enthusiasm.” As a swimming coach I think that this constantly reminds me to be innovative and fresh, to keep looking to new ways to get BSC Teammates to pratice more, practice better, and practice faster. As BSC Teammates look forward to swimming at meets again, I...

BSC Teammates came out to the Bowling Bash on Sunday and with over 40 Teammates in attendance it was a great event. Special thanks to Mrs. Oleson for organizing a great time for all BSC Swimmers!!

Throw Off That Which Hinders You I want to congratulate all BSC Teammates for a great week of practice. I have seen so many of you working hard on perfecting technique as well as training like MANIACS!! You all ought to be really proud---think about it--- when you can consistently go faster than your best time in practice you should be ready to ROCK at the meet. Occasionally something from the theological past hits me in the head and makes me stand up and take notice. This week I was...

Thanks so much to all of you who took the time to have your children try on suits and complete your equipment order.  These orders are being placed with Total Team Wares and will be shipped to your home within the next few weeks.  For those of you who were unable to make the Tuesdays try on, the equipment list for each age group is listed under Apparel on the BSC website.  If your child needs to try on a suit before ordering, Dicks, has Speedo Flyback suits.  Please take the...

Mental Preparation—Don't Overthink It Our Fall/Winter kickoff meet is only four weeks away. Everyone on the team ought to know exactly what they want to do at the meet. Goals should be set, teammates should be working hard at accomplishing those goals. Teammates should be perfecting technical and tactical instructions from their coaches to insure success at this meet. Our team goal is 100% Best Times at this meet lets all step it up a notch! One of the pitfalls with setting the bar so high is that occasionally young...

"DOLPHIN TALE" earns 4 stars from Barrington Swim Club attendees!   Over 40 club members including Coach Lex met at Century Theater to see the Inspired True Story "Dolphin Tale".   It was fun to watch our fellow team members sit back and enjoy this very special movie together!   I'm not trying to sound like an advertiser, but it was the perfect movie for BSC to share!

This story came across my desk today from the Staff at USA Swimming. As we look forward together as a Barrington Swim Club Family I think it is of vital importance that we constantly remind ourselves that the achievement of a goal is great, but what we learn as human beings along the way is far greater. ENJOY Coach Rob Yesterday, Janet Evans was the keynote speaker at the opening of the U.S. Olympic Sportslink program.  I asked one of our staff members, Emily Silver (an Olympian, herself) to take...
